According to reports Chris' unresponsive body was found by his wife in their family home in Soshanguve in Pretoria, Gauteng.
There have been speculations surrounding his death some alleging that the popular actor might have taken his own life. However, the family has not yet released any official statement.
Chris made his fame in the early 2000s drama series "Yizo Yizo", as Gunman. The series portrayed the rise of gangsters in township schools.
Tributes from friends and fans poured on social media after the news of his death spread on Monday night.
Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa sent his condolences to the family on hearing the news.
