Hip hop singer and actor Ice Prince is the latest Nigerian star to go the recording label route. The rapper let the cat out the bag a week ago saying that he hasn’t not been under contract with Chocolate City for the past three years. His new label Super Cool Cat is launched under the support of Chocolate City, the label which the rapper was signed under for seven years.
According to NET, Chocolate City Group has become the first African record label to follow in the footsteps of international heavyweights such as Universal Music and Sony Music Group, by having subsidiary record label imprints.
Speaking about his new venture, Ice Prince said, “Super Cool Cats is beyond a music label, we are into fashion, music and art. We are already working with a few fashion designers, video directors etc. It is in fact a full platform for different expressions of the arts.”
The rapper said he is already working on an urban line with Seyi Sanusi popularly known as Sneaker Boy, that’ll be unveiled in the coming weeks. Chocolate City said it sees the departure of the artist as an investment towards building an empire.
Rapper Jesse Jagz also launched his label JagzNation as an imprint under the popular Chocolate City Music label.
