Kwaw Kese – VGMA no longer legit

Kwaw kese sells his previous awards at the VGMA ceremony because they are no longer genuine

Some Ghanaian musicians allege that the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) are no longer legitimate because more deserving artists walked away empty handed at the ceremony.

In February, the Metro FM Music Awards in South Africa were accused of selling awards to record companies and now the Ghana musicians accused the VGMA of being rigged.

Popular artist and Reality TV star, Kwaw Kese showed his disappointment at what the VGMA has become at the 18th edition of the awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre by bringing his previously won awards in a wheelbarrow with an inscription, "Awards For Sale".

If you couldn't buy from vgma, am selling some for cheap #awardsforsale

Explaining the stunt he pulled at the ceremony, Kwaw Kese was quoted by Ghanaweb while he was being interviewed on Y Triangle radio show on Easter Monday saying he did that to show that the VGMA are no longer credible.

"I don't need to tell you. You saw what happened on the night. They gave awards to people who didn't really deserve and everyone is talking," he said.

Afro Dancehall singer, Article Wan, also shared his frustrations after his failure to pick a single award from three nominations.

"I didn't really feel bad but the truth is, I felt a bit like 'what's happening?' because the whole of last year, not that they didn't know, they know, they know what we did. The effort we put on stages wherever we were," he told DJ Enkay on 3FM.

Article Wan was nominated for the Best New Artiste, Afro-Pop Song and Most Popular Song categories.
