Nomzamo Mbatha and Maps Maponyane have both received nods for their leading roles in the South African RomCom ‘Tell Me Sweet Something’ at the 2016 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).
The nominations list was released on Monday and the organisers of the awards say they’ve received over 800 movie entries from over 60 countries mostly within Africa, South America, United States and North America.
The three South African movies that made the cut are: Ayanda, Tell Me Sweet Something and Hear Me Move. Nomzamo also got the nod for Best Actress in a Leading Role, whilst Maps landed the Best Actor in a Leading Role nominee for the same movie.
Actors, Thomas Gumede and Kenneth Nkosi are competing in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category. Thomas got a nod for Tell Me Sweet Something and Kenneth for his role in Ayanda. Ayanda and Tell me Sweet Something both received a total of nine nods each and Hear Me Move only received five.
The award ceremony will be held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State - Nigeria on 11 June 2016.
