Terry Pheto and Thabo Rametsi relive the tales of the past

Pheto and Rametsi put on a massive task of reliving the lives of struggle stalwarts in two different productions, "Madiba" and Kalushi".

Actress Terry Pheto will take on the character of the tenacious Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in the upcoming BET's mini-series, Madiba‚ which tells the chronicle of Nelson Mandela, played by American seasoned actor Laurence Fishburne. Thabo will take the lead as Solomon Mahlangu in "Kalushi".

Terry has described taking the role on Winnie Mandela as a dream come true. Terry will portray the life of Ma Winnie, as a wife to Mandela, as a freedom fighter and as the mother of the nation. She sees this opportunity not only as a dream come true but as an honour and a huge responsibility as such roles are normally given to American actors, overlooking them as African actors.

Reenacting this historical moment was intimidating, exciting but yet humbling as it made me finally understand the sacrifices✊🏾 #EnkosiMADIBA #EnkosMamaWINNIE #LeadingLady #NeverForget #27for27 📸: @marcoscruzphoto for @bet #MadibaBET

Terry hopes that Ma Winnie will be proud of her when she sees how she portrayed her life in this miniseries.

Solomon Mahlangu's life as a young struggle stalwart will be told in a biopic which is set to be released in cinemas next month. Thabo Rametsi will be playing the role of Mahlangu.

The film which features the likes of Pearl Thusi, is directed by Mandla Dube and it was supposed to be released a couple of years ago but couldn't because of the lack of funds.

The film tells the story of Mahlangu as a young activist up until he was executed by the Apartheid government. This film has been hailed as an important South African story with a personal letter of endorsement from President Jacob Zuma.

Terry Pheto and Thabo Rametsi lost themselves in these iconic characters bringing out the beauty of their craft. "Madiba" miniseries will be shown on BET Africa soon and "Kalushi" will be on cinemas nationwide as from 10 March 2017.
