Top African acts up against each other for the MTV EMAs

Nigeria's two biggest artists at the moment, Davido and Wizkid have been nominated in the same category for the Best African Act in the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards (MTV EMA).

Davido and Wizkid in 2017 have undoubtedly recorded massive successes both locally and globally with chart-topping songs. Davido released If and Fall which got the world singing and dancing, he even scored a collaboration with American award-winning RnB singer, R-kelly.

Wizkid has seen major success collecting a number of accolades. Besides working with international stars, Wizkid has achieved great things this year including being recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most streamed song on Spotify worldwide. He also recently became the first African artist to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Other artists nominated in the same category are South Africa's Babes Wodumo and Nasty C alongside Angola's C4 Pedro and Kenya's Nyashinski. It is not the first time for both South African artists to be nominated for international awards; Babes and Nasty C were both nominated for the 2017 BET Best International Act: Africa in the same category with Davido and Wizkid. Wizkid came out victorious.

On the world scene, pop singer Taylor swift leads with six nominations followed by Shawn Mendes with five while Ed Sheeran and Kendrick Lamar have four nominations.

The winners will be voted for by fans on mtvema.com. The main event will be held at London's SSE Arena on Sunday 12 November 2017.
