The Essence Festival is heading to South Africa, and Durban will get the honour of hosting it. Festival organisers have just announced the string of performers.
2016 BET Awards winner DJ Black Coffee along with DJ Zinhle and pop-star Babes Wodumo are part of the local line-up that will be joined by international musicians and speakers including Steve Harvey, Thandiswa Mazwai, Yolanda Adams, Kelly Price and Estelle.
The festival kicks off on 8 November and runs until the 13th with a free daytime Empowerment Experience featuring Harvey, Rev. Al Sharpton and Entertainment Lawyer Phaedra Parks.
The free daytime empowerment experiences will include a Money + Power pavilion aimed to provide opportunities for businesses to network. The Beauty and Style Expo, which will feature designers from across the continent showcasing and selling their products; the Lifestyle & Wellness Experience will feature fitness workouts from celebrity fitness experts, and healthy living tips, and Essence Eats will feature celebrity chefs preparing their specialty dishes.
"New Orleans and Durban are sister cities, and we are thrilled to present these sister festivals. We are creating a week-long experience that will inspire women globally and convene our communities across the diaspora," said ESSENCE President Michelle Ebanks.
