DJ Black Coffee has been playing an enormous role in taking SA house music to the world and his role hasn’t gone unnoticed. The Dj will be honoured with an International Achievement Award for flying the flag at the 2016 South African Music Awards (SAMA’s). This award put his name amongst the greatest musicians in the country such as Hugh Masekela, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Busi Mhlongo, the late Lucky Dube and Miriam Makeba.
Over the past five months, the House music maestro has travelled to 17 countries on four continents to play for the masses. Speaking about the award, he said: “I’m truly honoured by this great gesture. As a proud South African, I urge our youth to understand that the future of our country is in their hands, to leave the past behind, know that they can be anything they want to be and the World is their oyster. Trust Your Dopeness.”
DJ Oskido has congratulated Black Coffee, saying “the SAMA International Achievement Award is a huge milestone. I'm very proud of you, continue to prosper.” Speaking to BET, DJ Bongz said he is super excited for Black Coffee especially because they are from the same neck of the woods.“I’m proud man! This proves that if you believe in your work and do not compromise you will achieve big things. Coffee doesn’t compromise, he works hard and I’ve learn a lot from him. He does his thing in his own way and it has paid off,” Bongz told BET.
Keep in mind that he won the Best Breakthrough Artist Award along with the Dance Nation of the Year Award at the 2015 DJ Awards. He has been performing at the world’s leading festivals, such as Coachella in California.
