Africans woke up to Rihanna’s electric Grammy performance, which included a signature dance move called “gwara gwara”, famed by South Africa’s DJ Bongz. After seeing Rihanna kill the move during her performance of “Wild Thoughts” with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller, South Africans took to Twitter to tag both musicians, excited that the gwara gwara was performed on the global stage.
Speaking to BET Africa, an excited DJ Bongz said, “When I woke up on Monday morning I saw many messages and tags on social media and I even received calls from people asking me if I have seen what Rihanna did. I went and checked and I was happy to see a dance I’ve created being done by Riri”
“For me, recognition is very important; the fact that she did something I’ve created (makes me happy). I will not reach out to her management for money or anything, but if she would ask me to work with her I would definitely grab the opportunity,” he said.
