Nollywood star gets 5-year jail term

Nigerian actress Ibinabo Fiberesima’s appeal against a five-year jail sentence has been dismissed by the Appeal Court. Ibinabo was arrested in Lagos in 2006 for reckless driving. The accident resulted in the death of Dr. Giwa Suraj.
At some point during the trial, she was sentenced to a five-year jail term with an option of N100 000 fine by a Magistrate Court. That option was later removed by a High Court.
The actress, after the ruling in posted on Facebook urged his fans to pray for her. Ibinabo, according to reports, broke down in uncontrollable tears and was inconsolable following the judgement last Friday.
Nigeria’s Vanguard said when it contacted the actress for a comment, Ibinabo’s PA said: “My boss has been feeling unwell since the judgment was delivered. We are afraid it doesn’t affect her health. She just had an operation.”
