What Made News in 2015

No one has a better year musically than Adele who made the comeback of comebacks when she released her outrageously successful album ‘25’ in November. In its first week, it sold over 3.38 million copies in the US alone.

The album also retained the number one on the Billboard 200 for several weeks running. Don’t forget her past success either. Adele's 21 and 25 are the top two selling albums released since 2009. Yikes, talk about a good year!

SA rapper Caspper Nyovest’s year was one for the books. With multiple accolades such as MTV Base’s Hottest MCs, he’s proved that he’s one of the county’s finest. After a crazy year of doing great things, he proved that he’s that and so much more by doing what no other local artist has done before.

With the help of his more than 20 000 fans, he filled up the Dome! 2015 was definitely a turnaround year for him. His second album ‘Refiloe’ also went platinum, showing that the people of SA clearly love what he does.

One of this year’s most talked about stories will definitely have to be the scandal involving AKA and the two beauties, Bonang and DJ Zinhle. After having a lil girl together and appearing to be seemingly happy , DJ Zinhle broke things off with Super Mega and left us all wondering what had happened.

Zinhle then took to her blog a few weeks later to reveal that the reason for the split was that AKA had been seeing someone else while they were together, and that is was no other than the Queen B, Miss Bonang Matheba! The two both denied it and that was that. Eek, the drama!

On the international side of things, some crazy things were happening too. How could we forget about the Drake and Meek Mill beef? Meek Mill called Drake out for not writing all his own music and for using a ghostwriter, saying people can’t compare the two of them as he pens his own songs.

Drake then released a diss song, prompting Mill to retaliate. The situation went on for a while. Best part of it all? All the ridiculously amusing memes!

Remember when rapper turned designer Kanye West made a shocking announcement during his acceptance speech the 2015 MTV VMAst?

In his speech about the grocery store and his daughter, Mr West stunned us all by saying he’d be running for presidency! Oh yes, #Kanye4President was a real thing, or is it still? There hasn’t been an update, so we can’t say. Let’s see what 2020 brings!
